Tuno Indio is the Spanish word for Prickly pear, the fruit that the cacti bear . It normally has an intense red colour and is rich in vitamins and antioxidants.
Olive oil tasting
We’ll learn about bio friendly cultivation and elaboration of virgin olive oil on this farm. This includes a professional tasting of the native olive oil and a guided walk to see the olive trees.
The goats and it´s cheese
The third and last stop on this excursion is Julian’s cheese farm in a little town called Tiscamanita. Their goat cheese is elaborated using traditional methods as well as the milk from their own goats. This farm have accumulated prizes and awards at several international fairs including the World Cheese Awards, Agrocanarias and was the Best Canarian Cheese in 2013.

Experience the impressive landscape of La Gayria Volcano and explore its’ fascinating surroundings during the guided hike. Visit a small farm(finca) with an in-house bodega(wine cellar) and taste some of the local wines and liquor.
The volcano is without a doubt one of the most important volcanos in Fuerteventuras’ volcanic landscape. This is the place where we will start our hiking trip. This volcano is considered a natural monument in the preservation of Canarian heritage.
The route is considered to be of mid level difficulty and begins in the quaint little village of Tiscamanita.
We will find an overwhelming landscape due to the fact that it is a volcanic area formed by lava and pyroplastic fragments. Local people call this area ‘Malpais chico’ which literrally translate to small bad land.
During the guided walk along the volcano you will observe how they used to take advantage of this ‘bowl’ shaped land for agriculture . The handmade stone walls as well as the rain made it possible for the first settlers to survive.
The volcano is 461 meters high. During the climb we’ll take a break on a magnificent viewpoint situated about 100 meters into the climb as it is quite steep on the way up.
The entrance of the main volcanic crater requires some skill so you need to be someone who hikes regularly . Closed footwear such as sports shoes or hiking boots are recommended for this tour as the slopes can be quite slipperly without the proper footwear.
Wine tasting and farm visit
On the second part of the excursion we will visit a traditional farm a 45 minutes walk from the volcano.
This farm, known as Agrotourism for their ecological methods, produces white wine from the ‘Malvasia’ grape of Lanzarote and red wine from the ‘Black Listan’ grape from Tenerife.
An underground wine cellar forms part of the farm and includes a wine tasting and some ‘tapas’ tomatoes , goats cheese, virgin olive oil, bread and water await you.
